 How The System Works
Crop identification labels are 3.0 inches by 3.75 inches and are made of high quality graphic film that can be peeled back and attached to PVC or plastic field marking posts. The label size is compatible with commercially available field marking systems.
Labels can also be attached to wooden posts with staples, thumbtacks, or nails if plastic field marking posts are not available.
Two types of labels are available to identify crops as Herbicide-Resistant and Non-Herbicide Resistant. The Herbicide Resistant Technology Label includes identification of the specific herbicide technology.
Crop identification labels should be placed on posts at the entry to a field. If the field has several access points, labels should be placed on field sign posts at each entry point.
 
Labels should be easily visible by the person who will apply crop protection products. If labels are not placed high enough, they can become obscured by weed growth.
The crop identification labels have been designed by herbicide manufacturers to include herbicide resistant icons for quick recognition. The labels also include a vertical bar with the current year indicated to ensure that the label is current and not one remaining from a previous year.

Use these field labels to identify fields planted to crops that have been developed with herbicide resistance.
Field labels are also available for non-herbicide resistant crops to provide additional protection and ensure that the proper herbicides are being applied to non-herbicide resistant crops.
Crop labels are being supplied for corn and soybeans. Other crop labels will be available in the future.

Mid America Crop Protection Association
The Mid America Crop Protection Association was established in 1967. It’s purpose is to unify the efforts of the crop protection industry in the states of Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin by providing a framework for those involved in the crop protection industry to discuss the issues and reach a consensus on how to proceed.
The “Field Marking System” was identified as an issue by the board and a task force was appointed in 1997 to study it and come forth with a recommendation. As a result, the task force developed the “Field Marking System” as outlined in this brochure.
